BDSM as explained by the Dalai Lama

“There are many different levels of violence and non-violence. On the basis of external action, it is difficult to distinguish whether an action is violent or non-violent. Basically, it depends on the motivation behind the action. If the motivation is negative, even though the external appearance may be smooth and gentle, in a deeper sense the action is very violent. On the contrary, harsh actions and words done with a sincere, positive motivation are essentially non-violent.”

I  personally never use pain as a form of discipline. I find doing so makes it confusing to a submissive when you also use it for pleasure. It makes it that much harder to get them to subspace. When pain is dished out by me, it is given with a loving hand and every swing of my cane should give a feeling of  tranquility and pleasure. I do not (nor do they) experience it as violence when its cause and intended effect are the exact opposite.
